Not all of us can afford to drive a dream sports car, but sometimes it’s nice to dream about owning one. Apparently, during the pandemic, more of us have been using our cars as mobile entertainment centers, a safe space to get away from restrictions, enabling us to get out of the house and enjoy listening to music or podcasts in our personal transport bubble.
Try to imagine a dream car fitted with a sound system offering the highest-quality audio reproduction. Well, imagine no more. Deluxe Italian speaker maker, Sonus faber, has teamed up with the iconic Maserati automobile marque to win the 2021-2022 EISA award for the Best In-Car OEM Premium Audio System.
The winning audio system is installed in Maserati’s MC20 Super Sports car in a joint enterprise between the two companies. The Maserati produces a range of unique cars that have an amazing personality and they are immediately recognizable. Sporting stylish design and advanced technology, the exclusive character Maserati is something of a global automotive benchmark.
One year after the 622bhp MC20 was unveiled, these two luxury Italian heritage brands are continuing to develop their partnership by innovating automotive audio technology for discerning owners of these iconic sports cars.
MORE FOR YOU
The C20 Super Sports is the first Maserati model in production that’s fitted with a Sonus faber sound system. The designers at Sonus faber have used their considerable sound tuning skills to create a 12-channel sound system that’s backed up with a massive 695W of power feeding 12 speakers. Like all Sonus faber’s products, natural materials form a large part of the character of the sound system.
The Maserati MC20 sound system is tailored specifically to the cabin environment of the car, with speakers using custom EQ and real-time optimization of the 695W-rated Class D amplification. The system offers both regular stereo and surround options. The team behind the system claim the resulting sound manages to capture the ‘Voice of Sonus faber’ and offers the listener “the ability to distinguish the different instruments on a track, with the emotional experience mirroring a live performance.” Sounds good to me.
On accepting the award, the president of Sonus faber and the McIntosh Group Co-CEO, Jeff Poggi, said: “The Sonus faber team is honored to receive this prestigious award, truly affirming that this five-year passion project has resulted in a world-class automotive audio system. We share this celebration with Maserati, our trusted partner, and look forward to bringing our natural sound to more luxury automotive consumers across the globe.”
I haven’t yet had a chance to listen to the new system as my Maserati MC20 is still on order. I’m only joking; I drive one of those tiny Smart Cars, but I can dream. However, if my experience of reviewing Sonus faber’s speakers is anything to go by, this in-car entertainment center is likely to sound superb and worthy of receiving such an award.
Pricing and Availability: The Maserati MC20 with the Sonus faber sound system costs from $213,000 / £187,000.
