Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan has warned Manchester United that Erik ten Hag is “very excited” about the prospect of taking a job elsewhere, insisting he has further opportunities available to him.
United interviewed the Ajax manager earlier this week about the prospect of him becoming the club’s next permanent boss. As reported by the Manchester Evening News last week, Ten Hag is United’s preferred candidate to succeed interim boss Ralf Rangnick and further talks are set to take place.
The Dutchman, 52, has been heavily linked with the job ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked back in November. He has proven to be a popular choice amongst the supporters and a lot of them have settled on him as being their first choice option to take charge at Old Trafford ahead of next season.
Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino also remains in the running. United are fond of the former Tottenham head coach’s managerial qualities and he is understood to be keen to return to England and take the reins at Old Trafford.
And Pochettino could soon find himself back in the frame to land the job if Van der Kraan’s warning is correct. That is because he has revealed that Ten Hag has “three major opportunities” elsewhere, suggesting that United, despite speaking with the Ajax chief, remain a long way from securing his signature.
“There are three major opportunities for Erik ten Hag,” Van der Kraan told Sky Sports. “Manchester United is only one of them.
“These are clubs who play Champions League football and who have chances to win titles in their own country. One of those clubs is very concrete for Ten Hag, and I think that is on mainland Europe – not in England. I know for a fact that Ten Hag is very excited about that job too.”
