Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher disagree over who should be next Manchester United manager

Manchester United have identified Erik ten Hag as their preferred candidate in the race to become their next permanent manager – but two of the most renowned pundits disagree over who the club should appoint.

After crashing out of the Champions League on Tuesday night, the Old Trafford giants have made progress in their search to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Key figures in the boardroom are, as things stand, favouring Ten Hag, though their final decision has yet to be made.

Mauricio Pochettino is another frontrunner as he continues to come under pressure at Paris Saint-Germain. But there are several candidates out there – as Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher discuss. Here’s what the two pundits have said about three of the contenders to take over at United.

Jamie Carragher on Erik ten Hag

Speaking about the highly-rated Ajax coach after the Dutch side were eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday night, Carragher told CBS Sports: “I’d go with Ten Hag because I think he’s an up and coming manager.

“When you look at Ajax, yes, they are obviously dominant within their league. But what he’s done in the Champions League in terms of the first Ajax team that he sort of built and got to the final – then that fell apart.
