Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has been advised to offload Paul Pogba, Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire should he be chosen as Manchester United’s next boss.
All three have come in for fierce criticism this season regarding either their performances or their perceived negative attitude. Pogba’s contract expires this summer and it is highly likely that the World Cup winner will make an Old Trafford exit.
Many supporters feel the Frenchman has failed to consistently produce top-level performances since his move to United. Ronaldo is the club’s top scorer this season with 18 goals but has not escaped the fault-findings of onlookers, some of whom have mooted that he has had a negative influence on team cohesion and their style of play.
Meanwhile, Maguire has arguably been subjected to the harshest assessments, with many on the terraces unhappy with his showings this campaign. A lot has been said regarding the shake-up the team needs when a new manager arrives this summer.
Ten Hag’s links with United have been hotly covered in the Netherlands, with many Dutch pundits and former players airing their views on United’s managerial pursuit and the current squad. One of those is former Netherlands winger Rene van der Gijp, who has offered Ten Hag some advice should he swap Amsterdam for Manchester.
He told Dutch media (via the Daily Mail ): “He (Ten Hag) just needs to get rid of those troublemakers Ronaldo, Pogba, Maguire.”
While it seems Pogba will be leaving at the end of the season, the same cannot be said of captain Maguire and talisman Ronaldo.
